Cubs this week: JOTI, HRP tour and Apple Day

Cubs this week: JOTI, HRP tour and Apple Day

Hi Cubs families,

We have a busy week ahead, but first here’s a public service announcement from Akela:

Popcorn orders due Wednesday

Please bring your Cub’s popcorn order sheet with order money to our field trip on Wednesday. You can provide it to the Scouter doing check-in.

Please note: Orders can’t be processed without full payment included with the form, and the form/envelope has to be filled out!

Sunday Oct. 22 – Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI)

  • Where: St. Agnes Hall
  • When: 1:30-4pm
  • For: Cubs and their families

Howler Cubs are invited to join the Scouts for this event, where we chat with Scouts across the world. This will be my first JOTI, but I hear it’s really interesting. Howlers may not have a long attention span for this, so I would plan for 45-60 minutes tops. I’ll be there at a minimum from 1:30-2:30 pm, but longer if Cubs are interested. Parents are encouraged to attend!

Wednesday Oct. 25 – Field Trip – Halifax Police HQ

Registration is requiredSign up on the event page in Scouts Tracker (login first at https://scoutstracker.ca/cubs/ then click the event link)

Where: Front steps Halifax Regional Police HQ, 1975 Gottingen St, Halifax, NS B3J 2H1 (View map)
When:

  • Drop-off at 6:15-6:25pm
  • Pick up at 7:50-8pm

Cubs must wear their uniform for this event.

We are visiting the Halifax Regional Police headquarters this week for a tour. It’s going to be awesome! We’ll visiting the booking cells (if they are available), the fall-in room where officers are briefed at the start of shifts, see how their mapping works, see the Forensics area, potentially the K9 unit and more. Cubs will have time to ask questions as well!

Be early or on time! We are only allowed entry at 6:30 sharp. If you are late you will likely not be able to join us!

Sat. Oct. 28 is Apple Day – Sign up now!

Where:

When: 9am-12pm

Apple Day is a fundraising tradition that started right here in Canada. We’re dividing and conquering (so to speak) two locations this year!

This is annual event provides our youth an opportunity to show their appreciation to the general public for their support throughout the year. Our youth distribute apples as a way of saying “Thank You” to the community. Donations are accepted in exchange, but apples are not sold.

Any money raised during Apple Day goes towards improving our program by providing more outdoor adventures for youth, camping equipment, training and many other endeavours.

Cubs also get awarded community service hours towards their Seonee Award volunteer hours requirement!

Yours in Scouting,
– Baloo, CubsHQ
