20 Mar This Week – Kub Kar Clinic and Camping
This week we have two events planned:
Kub Kar Construction Clinic
As a follow-up to our Kub Kar planning and design meeting, we are going to work on constructing and fine tuning our Kub Kars. We will be working on our Kub Kars at The Kayak Guy’s Workshop located at 102-6050 Almon St, Halifax NS. Enter through the doors pictured and walk down the hall. The Kayak Guy’s shop door is the first door on the right past the hallway. (DO NOT GO TO THE HALL!)
We ask Cubs to bring their Kub Kar blocks, design, and racing enthusiasm. We will be reviewing workshop safety, woodworking skills (e.g., measure twice, cut once), and (in recognition of Engineer’s Month) the importance of details in design and construction.
March Camp at Miller Lake:
Our second camp of 2017 is one night, taking place at the 26th Halifax Miller Lake cabin this coming Saturday. Registration is open at the following link (which I hope works)
Register now
Times: Drop off will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, pick-up at 11am on Sunday.
Cost: Cost will be $20; we need funds on Wednesday night. Please place it in an envelope with your Cub’s name on the front!
Details:
- We’ll be covering camping, trail, and winter skills associated with the Outdoor Adventure Skills Program of the Canadian Path
- Please ensure your Cub has had lunch before drop off on Saturday!
- Packing for the weather will be very important for your Cub’s enjoyment. Print the attached Winter Camp packing list [PDF] and use it as a check list. We suggest you get the materials out and have your Cub pack them, checking off items on the list as they are packed!
We are going to discuss packing for a day hike and ask that each cub bring a day pack (or rough equivalent – e.g., book bag) to use for our hike.
We’ll share the menu and agenda in the next few days. We’ll need parents to help out as well, so please indicate if you can participate in the registration form. Thanks in advance.
