Cubs volunteers needed

Dear Cubs parents,

I hope you had a wonderful summer and I’d like to welcome you all to a new year of Cubs. For those new to the pack, I wanted to introduce myself. In Cubs you’ll know me as Akela, but my real name is Robert Bray and I’m the pack leader for the 26th Halifax Cub Pack. Our group has been providing great experiences and adventures to scouting youth for over 60 years.

I write to you today asking for your assistance. Scouts Canada is strongly committed to providing a meaningful and safe environment for our scouts and to that end we are required to have a minimum of one volunteer leader for every six youth.  Our challenge is that we currently have around 18 youth (with the potential for a few more) which is wonderful. However, with these numbers, we ideally require at least three more leaders – in addition to the two we already have (plus one who is ready to move to Scouts, once we have more help) – to present a program that can provide the best possible experience for our Cubs and have enough leaders to collaboratively present a rewarding experience for youth, leaders and families alike.

I’ve been involved in the Beavers and Cubs sections for over 20 years and scouting has been a rewarding adventure for me and the other leaders of the Cub pack. We need others to join us in making this program possible for children in the community – and to make positive experiences they’ll remember for years to come. You can be involved as much as your time permits – whatever you can offer will make a difference.

I encourage all of you (male or female) to consider volunteering as Cub Leaders (Scouters) in order to keep the 26th Cub pack sustainable and strong. Please discuss it with our Group Commissioner, Derek Spencer (aka Bagheera at majorspencer@gmail.com) or myself (brayrj91@gmail.com) at your earliest convenience.
